One Tipping Point We Need: Social Change Starts With Us

Last week Nina Elter, Founder & CEO of NEWROAD Consulting, had the honor of attending an inspiring 2.5-day Climate Reality Leadership Training in Rome, led by former Vice President Al Gore.

The Climate Reality Project, founded by Former US VP Al Gore, is dedicated to catalyzing global solutions to the climate crisis by making urgent action a necessity across every level of society. Their mission aligns perfectly with Nina’s commitment to driving sustainable change.

Being among 1,000 passionate climate leaders from around the world was exactly what I hoped it would be. Conversations with remarkable and motivated individuals have renewed my energy to drive meaningful change within my sphere of influence.

“Meeting Al Gore in person really was an incredible experience. His passion and commitment to solving the climate crisis is truly inspiring.” said Nina “After so many years of fighting for the cause, he hasn’t lost an inch of motivation. Thank you for your leadership, Mr. Al Gore, and the incredible team at The Climate Reality Project I encourage you all to join in and experience.”

To sum it up:
✅ Must we Act? YES
The average global temperature has been 1.5°C above the pre-industrial era for 12 successive months, according to new data from the European Union’s Copernicus ECMWF Climate Change Service. Also, did you know: Europe and the Mediterranean regions are warming twice as fast as the global average? While the news can be daunting these days, there is still time to act.

✅ Can we Act? YES
The good news is that we have all the solutions we need, and it even makes economic sense. We ‘just’ need to get going. A good reminder from Al Gore: “Political will is, itself, a renewable resource.”

✅ Will we Act? YES!
Because really, we have no choice. As Grammenos Mastrojeni, Deputy Secretary General for Energy and Climate Action, Union for the Mediterranean, said, “What’s good for the planet is good for me, what’s good for me is good for the planet.” —> Think about it,…it really is that simple.

There is only one tipping point we should aim to overshoot: the social tipping point. “The key for a social tipping point is individual actions,” said Carlo Buontempo , Director of Copernicus ECMWF Climate Change Service.

Every single one of us can make a difference; together we can accelerate change. Let’s get going!
